Unmount DriveSpace3 drive in real-mode

Here's another odd one.

I need to unmount a previously mounted DriveSpace3 drive, but in real-mode, not while Windows is running.

I know about the (semi-documented) SCANDISK /MOUNT X: syntax, but I am looking for a way to reverse the process.

Anyone remember much about this hoary old topic of compressed drive technology under 9x?

Thanks, but I'cve seen those links already.

They deal with either UNMOUNTs under Win95, or UNMOUNTs under DOS 6.2 or 6.22

What I need is something like DOS 6.22's DRVSPACE.EXE I suppose (which supports an /UNMOUNT switch, unlike Win95's), but that can work with Win95's CVFs. Or maybe I'm missing the point and I could just use 6.22's copied as DRVSP622.EXE and get away with it?

This is from the MS-DOS 6.22 Help file:
"DRVSPACE /UNMOUNT
Breaks the connection between the selected drive's compressed volume file and its drive letter. Unmounting a drive makes it temporarily unavailable.

You cannot unmount drive C.

Syntax

DRVSPACE /UNMOUNT [drive:]

Parameter drive:
Specifies the drive you want to unmount. This parameter is optional; if you omit it, DriveSpace unmounts the current drive.

Switch

/UNMOUNT
Unmounts the specified compressed drive."

[Just an information note, FAT32 partitions can't be compressed by anything that Microsoft offers.]

A boot floppy contains the file drvspace.bin [hidden]. The drvspace command itself is an internal command built into the boot files. Be sure to use a boot disk for your version of the OS.

Thanks Blujacket,

Been there, done that. No soap. Win95's DRVSPACE.EXE "Requires Windows" - it's a GUI application.

Essentially my question boils down to:

Can I UNMOUNT a Win95 DriveSpace3 drive using DRVSPACE.EXE from DOS 6.22 while running in Win95's pure DOS mode?

If not, is there another way to do this in Win95's pure DOS mode (i.e. a 3rd party utility or a switch for some other Win95 utility)?

you can bypass config sys lines including drvspace.sys at startup using ctrl+F8 which will prevent Drvspace.bin loading and your compressed volume will not be mounted.

I think I'm not being clear here.

I want the CVF to be mounted, but then later I want to unmount it, with Win95 running in between these two events.
