When my user accessed his files this morning he found several new file folders. They are #'d similar to: ae8e0ee8c67f733ce10d15f7cf44f3. Inside this folder is a folder entitled "update" and inside that folder is a log file. The log file reads; "CoSetup: Entering
CoSetup: Leaving".

Since it is April Fool's Day and Conficker is highly anticipated, my user (the CEO!) is quite concerned. Does anyone know what this file is?

TIA,

Jill

Hmm. Does he have or has he had a program called CyberMatrix Office installed????

From Google:
CyberMatrix Office is a virtual office collaboration program.

I've seen similiar file names on my drive. Opening one of them, contains 2 (inaccessible) folders. One is name AMD, the other is i386. They don't seem to be affecting anything (at the moment anyways).

You might want to do a google search for CoSetup. There is lots of info that might be helpful.

No CyberMatrix. I did a google search and found many applications that reference Cosetup.

I had someone locally tell me it is caused by MS updates. The problem is the folders are located outside of the windows directory. It doesn't look right to me.

Thanks for the response.

Jill

Any clues here? You can always backup the folders and then delete them.

Error Message: "Access Is Denied" When You Try to Open NTFS File System Folders

Jillp,
As I mentioned, I have similiar named folders on my pc (and they are outside of the windows folders - on another partition in fact).

I rebooted in safe mode and tried to open a folder. Couldn't. BUT was shown a message saying, basically to take control of the folder. I did this as Administratror. One folder looks like an update for office. Another had what looked like a EULA, but was in chineese!
