unjoining a domain- revision level unknown

When trying to change my Win 2K Pro machine from a domain to a workgroup, I get an error "The following error occurred attempting to unjoin the domain... The revision level is unknown."

The old domain doesn't exist any longer. I'm logged onto the computer as local admin. Is there anyway around this error msg?

Has anything else been done to this PC? What is the service pack?

No, nothing else has been done to the PC (i.e. no software installed/uninstalled, no confirguartion settings changed, etc).

The PC doesn't have a service pack installed. In the properties it has only "Windows 2000 Pro 5.00.2195".
