Is it possible to uninstall windows 98 from a clean system when the uninstall files have somehow been deleted? Thanks!

Dan

Can you re-install thus replacing the un-install files then un-install.

What are you trying to accomplish?

I tried that already. from what i can tell it only uninstalls the new one, but leaves the old program there. I'm trying to clear everything off of my computer and reinstall windows so i have a clean slate.

Assuming you have a boot floppy, boot from it. Copy the deltree file from windows\command directory to it.
From the floppy prompt deltree c:*.*. You'll be clean. Really clean. Takes a while with the larger windows directories and you have to interact with it. Ed Fair

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply.

Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

1. Do you still have files on there u wanna keep? If you do, DONT format or fdisk until u get them off.

2. Do you have the CD drivers? Make a 98 boot disk. You will be able to boot from it and it will install the drivers.

3. If you're NOT tryn to save the files on your system, just boot from the 98 disk, format C: Then place your CD in the drive and at the drive letter prompt type SETUP, and you'll be on your way.

3. If you ARE tryn to save file, and you've got the 98 disk disk, blow away the windows directory (you'll have to reinstall your old programs but you're gonna have to do that any way). Also, blow away the "setup" files on C: You should be able to install a new copy of 98 now.
