Can anyone help please???

I recently bought a PC (2nd-Hand)with windows XP installed. BAsically XP is seriously slowing down the machine and want to uninstall it and put a older version of windows on it. I have looked at the help instructions and it advises me to goto Add/Remove Programs and uninstall from there but XP isn't listed there???

I have looked at the setup for viewing files and have ensured that all Files are not hidden but still can't see it to uninstall???? can anyone help????

If this is the only OS installed on the PC (It's not setup for dual boot), then there will be no uninstall for XP. You will have to FORMAT and start over.

Hey kids, I have a same sort of problem. I had Windows XP pre-installed on my computer but last week, my computer would not start. I was told to re-installed Windows XP into a different directory than the first installtion of Windows. (So now I got Windows XP installed in C:\Windows and C:\Windows2 ).

Anyway, I managed to fix my first installation of Windows (Thanks to this Forum - see the thread titled Microsoft: Windows XP - Need help repairing corrupt "windows\ ... )

SO NOW... I need to uninstall the second installation of Windows XP that I installed!

It is not in the Add/Remove Programs list in either of the installations. How do I uninstall the second installation of Windows XP?????????

(If there is no way, is it wise just to delete the C:\Windows2 folder???!!!)

Save any files that you want in the unrequired windows folder and then just delete it via your other windows installation.

If they were set up as a dual boot you might have to edit the Boot.ini file to remove the deleted windows entry.

I want to uninstall window xp and go back to 98. This is only os on computer, so it won't uninstall. When I try to
format it says locked and will not let me format. It will not let you install 98 over it. How can I format.

Unpredictable
Sounds like you're trying to format the partition from within XP...you can NOT do this. Use a win 98 boot disk and fdisk from the command prompt. Format using the disk functions available. If for any reason fdisk cannot format/delete the partition, boot with the XP CD and delete the partition. Then retry the format with the 98 boot disk, or even start your 98 setup to run the format from within the setup.

Windows XP is not that bad, once you know how to configure it properly,
turn off all your toys under performance tab in the systems properties
and make sure you defrage the drive often
then XP will run good
