Hi,

While booting up I get this message. Unexpected inconsistency. Then it ask run fsck manually.
It seems that an error occured during root file system check.

Repair filesystem 1#:

What do I enter?

Thanks

from the console type "e2fsck -p" and that should fix things for you.

Hi RhythmAce,

I entered what you suggested and it gives me an emergency display and then prompts >Repair filesystem 2#:

What happened is after rebooting me screen came up a bit scrambled. So I turned off the system. Now during boot up it tells me the root file system has errors. Contrl-d or enter root login. So after logging in I get.
Repair filesystem 1#:

Thanks

Right, e2fsck is a somewhat more advanced version of fsck the -p option tells e2sfck just to fix the problem on that fs and not bug ya. Some people get confused by the prompts so I advised using the -p option. The -A and -V options tell it to step through all file systems then prompt you for what you want to do if needed and give you a report of what it did and the result. The echo ==$?== is new to me so I will look into that. Thanx and I'm glad you got things fixed.
