How can I really get a really good unserstanding of Cisco material. I am trying so hard. I seem to be spinning my wheels and I keep reading and it seems to go in one ear and out the other. It is not that I am not interested. I am. I just don't seem to be able to configure a router for real no matter what I read. I looked into a school but they wanted thousands of dollars. That is steep for me now. The desire is there but I get discouraged because I really want to know what I am doing. Thanks.

I treach the Cisco Academy at out local tech center(high school). We also offer it at our local Junior college. The Cisco Academy is a great place to get started, check it out at cisco.netacad.net. Also, there are some great videos that I have come across that provide detailed descriptions and informative steps to working with routers/switches. Check out Keystone learning, Todd Lammale has a few videos out. I usually buy mine off ebay, save a few dollars. Hope this helps.

I can understand its very confusing when you look through these forums as a lot of aspects are mentioned. You'll have to start with basic configuration and build it up. You can buy books, video's and attend trainings or visit websites for basic router understanding. I found this Cisco link usefull where they describe basica router configuration

Maybe its a good start. Good luck

I start 7 years ago with a nice book call something like TCP/IP Routing from Mcgraw hill. I got a hold of a couble of routers from work and started playing. SInce then thier are a lot more books but you need a few routers to play with. That's the biggest thing.
