I have a page header with a water mark and in the section expert I have the underlay following sections selected. I noticed that I have lines in the report footer section along with data and the watermark image seems to block out the lines. The watermark image does appear to be behind all data being displayed, just not sure what is going on with the lines? Also I tried to underlay a watermark on a section containing a chart. The watermark was not visible, there is a chance it could have been entirely blocked by the chart but was not sure if underlaying a section with a chart works as well.
Using crystal report 10 that comes with vs.net 2005, thanks.

If you use a text box to create the lines (by adding a border), the watermark will underlay the line. Not sure what your question is about the chart. Don't you want the chart on top of the watermark?

ok thanks for the information will give it a try. Yep wanted the chart on top of the watermark. I have the chart in a report footer section so created another report footer section above the one with the chart and placed the watermark in this section. For some reason it did not seem to be visible although there is a chance the chart completely covered the watermark.

thanks that seemed to work! I have one report that alternates the background color of the details section from silver to grey and I am using a formula in the Color menu of the section expert to do this. I noticed that the watermark seems to cover the background color (it is all white) so it looses the silver/grey background color where the watermark is underlayed. Probably not too important but was wondering if there is a way to fix this.

Sometimes I make a borderless colored box on the line instead of changing the background color of the line. You can set your color control formula on the box just as you can in the section expert.

Sometimes when layering images and colors this gives more flexibility in deciding what is 'on top' and what is moved to the back.

Also in the chart expert under options tab, there should be a box to make the chart background transparent, so your watermark will show through it.

Hope it helps...

thanks for the response. I inserted a blank text box with no boarders and added the background color formula that I had in the section expert. I also set the text box size to cover all of the data in the details section, so it will look like the background is alternating color. It looks like the text box is blocking the data though when I run it, not sure if I have set this up has have described.

After you get the text box in place on the line, click the lock format and lock size/position buttons so you don't accidentally more it around when you're working with the other fields on the line.

then right click on the data fields you say are being hidden and then select Move, then 'to front'. that will put them in front of the text box.

thanks that worked. Do you know if there is anyway to the text background be behind the image so I would want it layered as first layer data, second layer image, third layer textbox background.

layering is difficult in CR sometimes. it sure isn't Photoshop!

i usually play with the Move Forward and To Front commands on each item until I get it right, but you don't always have the option and when you have images cascading from one section to another it's even more difficult.

good luck

thanks again for the additional information, will play around with it a bit more as suggested. It is not real important to get it layered correctly but would be nice.
Paul.

yeah it's nice. i put a lot more time into the design of my reports than what i've seen from most people. i like the nice slick shiny web 3.0 looks and CR doesn't give you a lot of tools to help. useablilty is important. data is not information and information is not knowledge... yadda yadda yadda...

cheers
