Having major problems trying to roll out XP Pro. Wondered if anyone else has had the same or can figure out where i'm going wrong!

I have created a boot disk to format my hard drive and then connect to a network distribution share (this all works fine). I then copy over the I386 folder from the share to the machine i'm trying to build. I also copy over an unattended install file (created by XP version of setupmanager). Then i run winnt (this is from dos so has to be winnt not winnt32) with the correct switches to point it at my local I386 folder and my answer file. This all seems to work as the installation then gets going copying the temp setup files.

The fun starts though when the system SHOULD reboot, IT DOESN'T but just hangs saying it is copying files (no disk activity).

Manually reboot the machine and all seems to continue normally until it stops and asks me for proof of qualification for upgrade product (the source files have come from a full version of the XP Pro CD NOT an upgrade) for which i need to put a CD from a previous windows version in the CD drive. Can't get past this point!!

Any ideas very gratefully received!!! Jamie Gillespie

r u installing on all the same sorta machines? if so, why dont you save yourself the hassle and use norton ghost?

Wish it was that easy. Have to build a variety of machines including laptops - can't use RIS either as not all support PXE boot ROM Jamie Gillespie
