Unable to use ACCESS XP

out of the blue, I'm unable to use ACCESS XP.. I'm receiving error messages that state "UNKNOWN" when attempting to open a table... I've been able to create and save a table but am unable to access it. Basically I can't do anything at all because I can't open any tables.. .I've tried repair and compact.. I've tried to repair using the original Office XP CD... I've done a complete "uninstall" of Office XP, and then a re-install, I've re-installed SP3 and still.. nothing... does anyone have a clue as to what is going on?

Probably off, but this is not just with one db? If one db only thats tweaked, maybe import all of it's objects into a new db.

no, its all databases... I'm unable to access the data in any table.. so when I attempt to open a form ACCESS gives me the fatal error message and closes. This is a new one on me. I've also run RegClean on the registry, and AdWare to check for any SpyWare, still no help. I'm able to create a new database, create a new table, save it, add data to it.. but can't view the data once I've closed the table.

I'm stumped. What error message does it give? Can you use tools, convert, and save to a different version of access and see what that does?

(1) "UNKNOWN" -- is that the full exact error msg?
(2) Do you also have an older ver. of Access on the computer?

Unknown.. is all the error message states..

No XP is the only version on this particular PC....

just did a virus scan... one was detected.. deleted it.. still have problems...

PaulF, wonder if you've had any breakthroughs and whether you were able to apply any of ChaZ' ideas. So far, this exceeds my idea of a worst-case scenario.

I attempted to convert to a X mdb to an ACCESS 97 mdb, but received an error message relating to ActiveX control, and then it shut down. I'm going to "re-do" my attempts today.

I uninstalled, reinstalled ACCESS, OFFICE XP and that wasn't the solution.. .


However.....

the problem is fixed.. it ended up having to do with a game that I had installed and partially uninstalled last week. Battlefield Vietnam..... I had installed all of the products available.. but encountered problems and then uninstalled all... however when I reinstalled the game again, I only installed the minimum required.... Today I re-installed those programs I didn't do the second time around.. and presto.. ACCESS works again. Which is good because I was just about ready to reinstall Windows XP since a reinstall of Office XP didn't fix it.
