Unable to UNC or Ping systems on domain

I am having a very frustrating situation on my server. I cannot ping, unc or use remote desktop connection on about 75% of my systems. All of the systems are setup the same, controlled via GPO's. All GPO's are being applied to the computers that are not responding, and I have run out of ideas.

I am running Server 2k3 with 200 user systems and 250 users, yes I have shared computers.

Any suggestions as to why this might be happening and how to correct it would be great. Ask for any info you want, and I will be happy to provide it for the forum to review.

sounds like DNS...can you ping based on IP?
