I am having problems un-installing Visual Basic 6.0 (Enterprise Edition).
The problem seems centered around the fact that the setup.stf file is missing from C:\Program files\Microsoft Visual Studio\Common\setup\1033
Is there any way of copying in the relevant file (maybe from the installation disk) so I can uninstall vb6.
Any help gratefully appreciated.

Hi there,

I did a search on my installation cd and found the file. If you do the same, you should be able to copy the file and paste it in the directory from which it is missing.

Hope this helps.

No joy I'm afraid, but thanks anyway. There is an article on Microsoft's Knowledge Base which gives instructions on how to manually remove Visual Studio:
There is some messing about with the registry, but it looks fairly straightforward. I will let you know how I get on.
Thanks

Once you do a manual removal, run a registry cleaner.

Another way to do it would be to simply install vb onto the computer without un-installing it. Once this is achieved you should be able to locate the setup.stf and remove it using the uninstaller

Merry Xmas!

Actually if you want to go the easiest route... I have done this for clients that try to manually uninstall without using the wizard.

1) Re-Install the software package (complete) This will put all the uninstall information back in there.
2) Un-install it.

To LPlates and Casper. Thanks for the help, but I have tried re-installing and under (win2k o/s) it complains about there being a 'potentially conflicting version of a Visual Studio 6.0 product on your machine'. Even if I ignore the error messages and continue, it doesn't install correctly and then cannot be seen in Add/Remove programs. I haven't tried the MS KB way yet. Thats a nice job for this afternoon.
Thanks
