Hi there

Trying to get a Dell 122T (DLT) - aka Benchmark VS640 - working with Nbu 5.1MP3 on a Redhat server. Drive and robot devices configured ok as the Inquiry info shows up on the admin gui, however, when running an inventory I get 'Unable to sense robotic device (202)'.

I've got the robot defined as TLD which I am sure is correct.

/var/log/messages shows loads of stuff to the tune of:

modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-60

and

Mode_sense error (which I also get in robtest).

The drive mappings appear to be ok as well.....so I'm well and truly schtuck!!

Any help much appreciated before I throw this unit out of the window. ;o)

My first question is;

Is this library under the compatibility matrix located on the site?

Do you have the right drivers and modules loaded?

What version and Edition of RedHat?

Hi, thanks for the response!

Firstly, I have been informed by a Symantec consultant that the device is supported; I'm assuming (maybe rather dangerously?) that the drivers are ok as NetBackup can see what type of device it is (even down to the manufacturer/serial no.) by scanning teh scsi bus. Although not sure whether this is relevant or not.

And finally...it's running on Redhat 2.4.21-20.ELsmp.

Cheers again

Alright, according to the support matrix, this library is only supported with the following firmware levels;
5000
8000
0102

Device drivers do not give you the serial information as this is a funtion of serialization of the library and the SCSI inquiry commands.

Verify your firmware and post which driver you are using

Hi again

Ok, the unit firmware level is at 5000 8000 0102 as you specified.

As for the Linux side, I think that the driver is:

30125 Version: 3.1.25 (20030529) as per /proc/scsi/sg/version?

Just like this:

[root@DW-BACKUP01 etc]# more modules.conf
alias eth0 tg3
alias eth1 tg3
alias scsi_hostadapter megaraid
alias usb-controller usb-ohci

Hi - managed to get to the bottom of this problem, so for information to anyone interested.

I'd basically got the tape drive and robot controller (which live on the same scsi bus) configured on the same LUN - I changed /proc/proc/scsi so that the robot controller was on LUN1 (tape drive on LUN0) - ran a make_scsi_dev and hey presto, Nbu can see 2 separate entities. Ran an inventory which did it's stuff so am now in the process of testing this furter.

Thanks for the input anyway.
