Unable to Send To Hotmail/Some other domains 1

I am using SBS2003 with Exchange 2003, and I am unable to send emails to hotmail and a few other domains. The first thing that happens is you get a message that it hasn't been delivered and is still trying, then you get an NDR that says it timed out. I know there is something about making your SMTP "clean" and I think that may be the problem, but I don't know how to fix it. For example, our email address is blabla@thiscompany.com However, the address for thiscompany.com is not the ip address that is sending the email, so I know that could be a problem...any help will be appreciated.
 
What does the NDR say (verbatim)? Make sure you have a reverse DNS entry for your public IP address. It's required.

Verbatim is says "Could not deliver the message in the time limit specified. Please retry or contact your administrator. <domainname.com#4.4.7>
 
Do you have a revDNS record for you mail server IP setup by your ISP?
 
I second the recommendation to check RDNS.

So, the ISP would have to set up the RevDNS and I wouldn't have to set it up on the Exchange server itself?
 
Correct, it is configured in PUBLIC DNS.

Who is the ISP? My ISP requires that I just relay to that smtp server. If I don't I can't email people in that domain. All Email server inside the address space for the ISP's domain is blacklisted until you relay. See if you can do that. Maybe it will make a difference.

You should only need to relay if:
Your MX record points to the ISP server instead of Exchange

Have the MX record point to your public IP and set the RDNS to point your public IP to your domain name and no relay is needed.
