I have 6 boxes running XP pro plus a laptop with Vista Ultimate. They are all on the same workgroup. Initally the Vista laptop saw the other devices fine but suddenly stopped doing so. Does anyone have any idea why this might be and what I can do about it? Thanks for reading this.

You might want to take a look in the 'Network & Sharing Centre' on the Vista laptop and make sure that all the relevant 'allows' and 'turn on' boxes have been checked. There are a few there that can hamper networking nicely.

How is the firewall setup on the Vista box? On - Off?

How are all the machines connected... cabled/wireless, mix of both?

Another item to check: make sure that the Vista computer is set to the correct Workgroup name:

Right-click on 'my computer', 'properties', click "Change name" or "view name" - I forget exactly what it's called. Then you'll see an option to change the name/network info - one of the two. Once there, you'll see where you can change the computer description and the workgroup name.
