All,

I am trying to access an ftp site on a web server. The web server can see itself using the ftp://###.###.###.### (with the ip address), however, in the outside, client pc's access the web site using the alias/node name associated with the ip address. Basically, using the ip address to access the ftp site works from the server itself, but using either the ip address or the name don't work on the 'outside'.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Adam.

When you say from the outside are they passing through a firewall to get to this server? You might want to have a client perform a ping and tracert to verify he can get to the server.

No, there is no firewall. By outside, I mean general users within the company.

Are the users able to ping the server by name and also by ip? If so what error message do they receive when they try to connect using a web browser? Also have you actually tried using ftp client software rather than a web browser to connect.
