Hows it going we have a bit of a problem here there is a PC that used to be part of an older domain that has since changed and we would like to add it to the new domain but when we try we get an error message saying "The Revision level is unknown" I read on the net that you may need to login as a domain administrator but since we no longer have a connection to the domain i was wondering if there is a work around for this

You should first logon with an administrative account (a local one if possible), and remove it from the old domain by adding it to a workgroup. Once this is accomplished, reboot, then logon and join the new domain.

ya we have tried that but we are still getting that error about revision level unknown. I think its because it is part of an pld domain and in order to remove it properly you need to login as administrator on that domain but it doesn't exist anymore so that can't be done just wondering if there is a work around for it

ya got that article all right but the reg edit will not let me change permission on security the permissions button doesn't appear in the registry editor. I assume i am looking in te right place for it Edit ---- Permission

Hello ronmon,

The procedure is the same as that explained in ms article 199071:

It is now for you local m/c. Also, it might be any subkeys under the LSA secrets. The radical operation might be eliminating all sukeys. But, try first identify which ones cause the problem.

You need to use regedt32.exe not regedit if you are on Windows 2000. There is a security option on the toolbar.

ACE Guys that regedt32 sorted it out thanks
