I am trying to record some old records to enhance and copy to cd. I am now haiving problems getting my software (Cool Edit Pro 2.0) to pick any sound up.

I've never has this problem before so am a bit perplexed. My soundcard is a Soundlaster Live. I can hear the records playing through the PC but just can't record them!

I've checked within the sound settings to make sure that the line in setting is not 'muted', Also have tried Audacity and Total Recorder with no luck.

I'm getting a little desperate now as I wanted to get some of my mums old 78s put accross to CD for her birthday.

Any help you guys can give will be greatly appreciated.

Check the volume on the line in is not set to zero (and that any volume you are receiving is not due to the play volume which affects every setting).

Someone posted this in an earlier thread.

"Click on the little speaker icon..... once its open go to 'file' then 'properties' and choose the soundcard you're using.... you should then have all the options on it and be able to use all of your soundcard inputs and what not. Look in there and set everything the way you want it.

Then go into your control panel and make sure all your sound options are set to your SB card and all should be fine."

And this.....

Check out your Event Viewer for any clues too.

Not directly linked but maybe worth a try.

Some general things to try.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows itself by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.
