I have 2 jobs scheduled -- one is an incremental that runs during the week and the other is a full backup that runs on fridays. They both have all the same options (First backup: append to media, Options for Additional backup: Overwrite SameMedia, Blank or Any Media). In order to properly perform the backups we have to stop the DB during backup and then restart it aftwards. The problem is that it will backup the C:\ drive and when it comes to doing the D:\ drive I get Next Media 7/09/04 11:30 PM, ID 6E23, Sequence #2. It then goes on to say 'W3831 Unable to find any media that can use this job'. We have to cancel the backup so that the DB comes back online so now we're left without a full backup. Any ideas?

Your stopping the ARCserve Database???

Is the problem that it is trying to span to another tape?

Is the problem that it cannot find a tape, eventhough there are tapes present? This could be if the DB engine is down, becasue then ARCserve cannot verify if a tape is in a Save or Scratch set, so it might not want to overwrite a tape it is not sure of??

I didn't stop the ArcServe DB, I stopped a DB that's running on the server that employees need to access in order to work so when the backup doesn't run properly, the DB is still out of commission until the job is cancelled. I have a single 40/80GB tape drive. The DB, job and tape engine are all running. It only wrote about 2.5 GB (C:\drive) to the tape and then starts requesting a new tape when it has to backup the D:\ drive.

what version of ARCserve?
What updates?
What tape library?
Did it ever work?
When did the problem start?
copy in the portion of the activity log for the job.
Only Custom jobs use the tape options, Rotation and GFS jobs depend on the tape being either blank or in the Media Pool Scratch Set.
What type of job is this Custom, Rotation, or GFS?
