I have been unable to open or place any tiff files in my copy of Illustrator 9 for some time now. Simple uninstall and re-install doesn't work, Removing or renaming the AIPrefs file neither. I have tried to re-install in Safe Mode and it is questioning my missing Himem.sys file. It's getting late, I'm getting cranky and would be so thankful for any helpful tips to get me out of this jam...
Thank YOU!

hi,

what kind of message do you get?
What OS are yoy working on (Windows, MAC)?

hi grill house,
I am on Win 98/2 - It simply says "An unkonwn error has caused this operation to fail"
Boohoo, still no light at the end of the tunnel...

Hi,

I'm not a specialist on Windows, but I think it has nothing to do with Illustrator but with your windows setup. himem.sys organizes the the use of the ram memory. If the system is missing your himem.sys, the only thing to do is reinstall your Windows 98 configuration. Probably you trashed the file by accident.
Another possibility is to do a search on your computer and see if the file is still on your system. If so, than you must place it in your root directory.

I hope this solves your problem

I have never really pushed 98 to run AI. Remember, windows has never been a good place to do graphics. Only now a days that PC's have WAY too much overhead do things appear to run as smooth as Macs. I dont wanna say that AI was designed for a better version of windows because it was never designed for windows in the first place. You will probably encounter less problems by trying to keep your OS upgraded along with your version of AI. BEHOLD! As Steve Jobs introduces us the latest in desk-lamp technology!

Rubbish!! Illustrator runs just fine on Windows. Has done for years. Please don't start one of those stupid PC/Mac wars here.

Nadster - try looking for that missing file as grillhouse suggested. It should be located in the C:\Windows folder.

Have you tried to import the graphic in another format such a PSD or BMP.

This isn't a cure but if it works it might get you through the job right now.
