We have a Sony AIT-4 tape drives installed in a Windows 2003 server. Until recently I have been able to label new media before starting a backup. However when I now try to label media it fails every time. The error message is:

Final error: 0xa000821e - Library error - incompatible storage media detected in robotic library.

There is no robotic library installed. The drive is correctly recognised in Backup Exec and the drivers are all up to date.

Any ideas as to what is causing this problem?

I managed to label the AIT-4 tapes eventually. After completing the backup I can rename the tape in the "media" settings. This doesn't erase the tape like it does if you try and name the tape using the "device" settings. Also the correct tape name is recognised when you use the same tape for subquent backups.
