When attempting to install Vb 6.0 Pro on to XP Pro SP1 the following message is received:

setup has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Error Signature

AppName: vs60wiz.exe
App Ver: 6.0.0.8167 ModName: vs60wiz.exe
ModVer: 6.0.0.8167 Offset: 000087f1

I have tried all suggestions mentioned in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 250343 but to no avail.

Can anyone else suggest a solution or get around?

Thanks,
Gary

Gary,
I would try 3 things. First make sure that SP1 is the latest update for XP, I looked and found a 1a listed, but I am not running XP so there could be others. Secondly try installing all of VS on a different machine, with Win2k or even 98 on it. That will eliminate any thought of it being a bad CD. Just make sure you uninstall it after testing is complete.
Finally, try installing JUST VB6, not all of VS on the XP machine, doing a minimum install, then adding components after the EXE is in.

Thanks for your suggestions. Firstly, I have been using the CD at work so I know that it works under W98. I tried updating to SP1a and edit my registry as suggested in the MS TID 192731 but the messge persists. I have tried installing using the following:

E:\SETUP\ACMSETUP.EXE /T VB98Pro.STF /S E:\ /n "" /o "" /k "0450197396" /b1

Still no joy as I receive the message "You must first run the Installation Wizard before running the setup."

Any other ideas?

Many thanks again,
Gary

PS The CD is MS VB 6.0 Pro only and not the complete VS suite.
