Hi Guys,

We are backing up a NetApp filer (FAS250) with backup exec & the job is failing with the error "Unable to initialize Remote Agent" the remote agent obviously cannot be installed on a NetApp filer but I dont want this error to fail the job.

I remember there being a registry hack to stop this error from failing the job - does anyone know it??

I have had a look on the Veritas website but couldnt find it :(

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Is the NetApp filer OS Windows or Linux/Unix? I think it may have custom OS , which would result in the error you report above because there is no Windows Remote Agent installed or detected. If its Unix flavor and you can get to a unix prompt you can install the Unix agent with no problem, but Im sure it will be unsupported..in Backup Exec.

Just looking at the pdf specs looks like veritas is not even in the list for support backup methods on the netapp side of this setup

The NetApp filer is NAS appliance with an embedded OS - hence we cannot install any addition 3rd party agents on the filer.

I was really looking for just a registry hack to stop the error failing the job.

have you asked this before?

ok to backup a netapp do the following..

1. Setup a user defined share of the netapp by IP address.
2. select the shares you want to backup.

You then shouldn't get the unable to initialise remote agent error.

I can't think of the registry hack for this - didn't even know it existed.
