Unable to export Reports/Charts to HTML

I'm trying to export my database reports to an HTML formatted file, but I'm having difficulty. The chart header, footer, and titles show up, but the chart itself does not. IOW, when I export a report out to HTML format, the actual data is left behind.

One thing that confuses me is the prompt I receive from Access when I try to export the report to an HTML file. Access prompts me with a dialogue box titled "HTML Output Options" and wants to know the name/location of the HTML Template I plan to use. The Access Help file states that Access will create one if I don't specify, but apparently it's not because the report is empty. I don't work with HTML so I'm not sure what I need to do.

Can someone help me successfully export an Access report (which contains a chart or graph) out to an HTML file?

Thank you,
KerryL

What method are you using to export your report to an HTML formatted file? Robert Berman

Thank you Robert.

I launch the report, which contains a chart, and once it comes up in preview mode I select:
File > Export
Give it a name & select HTML from the "Save as type" box.
Click on "Save"
"HTML Output Options" dialogue box appears, requesting me to enter an HTML Template.
I leave it blank and click on OK.
The report is saved as an HTML doc, but the chart on the report (which is built from one of the DB tables)isn't in the HTML document. Only the title, header, footer, etc.

I tried everything listed in the help files but so far no luck.

Kerry,

I used the project I am working on, displayed the report in preview mode. Right clicked on the report and selected as export. selected HTML. I too got the template box and ignored it. Just kept telling it it to do the export and it did it perfectly, capturing everything on the report on the HTML PAGE. The only thing that surprised me was rather than put it in the current directory, the one with the mdb, it put it in the parent directory, but it did work quite nicely.

Try it again and watch what directory it is going to use.

If you still have a problem post back.

Hi Robert,

I did exactly what you did and an html document was created, but once again the chart itself is not on it. I tried it with a couple of the other reports and had no luck with them either.

I don't get it. The report is generated from a query, but I don't know what else to tell you. I'll try creating a simple report from scratch and exporting that one to html to determine of the properties are causing a problem.

Thanks for your help.

Kerry,

Do me a favor. Create a new report, something trivial, which simply outputs text or numeric information…..but….no graph output(s) and send it to HTML, and let me know if that works. If that works, and your graph does not, what version of Access are you using?

I was able to successfully export one report out to an HTML document. It's a report that contains only text, no graphs and charts. So apparently the embedded charts have something to do with the problem. I will continue to investigate; if you come up with any ideas please let me know.

Thank you,
KerryL

Hi guys.
When you export a report in whatever format (word, html, etc) you will lose any OLE information. Your only real option is to manually create your html document.
There is an example on my website called quiz.zip which does that for you. At the moment it doesn't do anything with charts, but it could easily be adapted. have a look at the export method of charts.

Cheers

Kerry,

Ben just resolved the situation. I had come to the same conclusion but was tracking it down with some research and phone calls, but Ben is absolutely correct.

Thanks Ben, you saved me a lot of research time. Robert Berman

Thanks Ben,
Unfortunately, I'm not HTML proficient so I don't think adapting your HTML quiz.zip file for use with charts will do me much good. I'll have to see if someone else around here can help with that.

Thanks for the clarification.

FYI - even though this is way after the fact it may hekp someone else.

I had the same problem whenever I transfered my database off of the delvelopment machine - I found that by changing the query on which I sourced the report to a make-table query and using the table as the report source the data appeared in all output forms.
