Unable to disconnect from web site 1

I created several pages in dreamweaver 8 and uploaded to my web site. I need to make changes to some of the pages and am trying to do that locally. Dreamweaver does not let me disconnect from the site. I clicked on the disconnect from remote host and it appears to disconnect. When I go to edit the page and view it in my browser IE6, it automatically reconnects and downloads the page that is on the web site instead of the newly recreated page.
I waited for the normal disconnect but it starts to put the file up to the site and the page is the one that is loated on the web site.
How can I disconnect and reconnect when I need to??

Hi,

You would normally have it set up this way if you were going to use Contribute for other users to edit content.
In the Site Manager, and the Remote Info tab. You probably have "Enable file check in and check out" ticked. Untick it and see if that does what you need.
