Unable to Disable Wireless Adapter

My wife's laptop has recently developed wireless problems. We tried getting an external USB wireless card, but we couldn't disable the wireless adapter. We have a "work-around" solution of having the laptop wired, and it works fine.

However, how can I disable the wireless adapter? I am able to find all wireless access points in my area (including my own), but I can't connect to any of them. When I try to "repair" the wireless connection, the laptop gets to the "disabling wireless adapter" and then freezes. I have to use task manager to kill the process, and then when I try to reboot the laptop, I have to do a hard shutdown.

Like I said, I have a work-around, but I would really like to get the wireless working again. Any suggestions?

Hi,
When in the Control Panel..Network Connections what happens if you highlight the connection using the adapter and disable it?

Guess what - this was a case of the Microsoft update corrupting some of the Dell driver files. Not only the wireless driver, but the sound card was also affected. Reinstalling the drivers fixed both issues.

But the good news is I learned how to crimp CAT 5e connectors. So my house is both wired and wireless now.
