On my XP Home system, the first diskette I insert after power on is the only diskette content that I can access. It appears like the content gets stuck in a buffer somewhere and I have not found a way to reset this buffer and reload it with another diskette's content. Even if the floppy is removed, it's content is still visable and accessable in My Computer and from a MSDOS prompt. Is there a registry setting that is fouled up here? or how can I figure out what is happening? Thanks,

Does the device manager show the floppy drive as working properly ?
If not it has troubleshooting and driver options.
Try going into the Device Manager and remove the floppy drive controller there. Reboot and let the system detect/reinstall the controller.

266402 - Contents of the Disk Drive Are Not Displayed on the Computer Screen

I had already uninstalled the driver and reinstalled - no change. Also in the device manager, all devices are displayed and no flags on any of them. I will try replacing the drive (and maybe cable) to see if that helps. Thanks for your suggestions.

Could be a bad floppy. I know that floppies used to have a change line on them... when the drive was opened (or closed, can't remember) a signal went high that the disk had been inserted.

You may also try right-clicking on your floppy drive and doing an "Eject", just to see if that makes a difference.

I suspect the problem is the change line switch. I replaced the drive and all is now working. Thanks for the suggestions..
