Unable to browse the network. The network is unaccessible.

We are having problems with new Gateway machines just recently purchased. They are PIII, 933's with 3COM 3C920 NICs. We are unable to get them to see the network using DHCP. Only until we assign a static IP address does the PC logon to the network. Once it logs in, it maps the network drives according to the logon script and I am able to access the mapped drives. However, when attempting to access Network Neighborhood, I receive the error: "Unable to browse the network. The network is not accessible."

Please help.

Are the Win98 machines set to loginto the domain when DHCP is set? Also is file and print sharing set? Are they all on the same workgroup? James Collins

The machines are set to logon to the domain when DHCP is set. I checked the workgroup as you suggested and found that it was different than the other machines. I changed it and it got rid of the original problem(which was that there were no domain servers available to authenticate my password - i forgot to mention that). Now, I get the message that "the network could not validate your username" after attempting to log in. I get that message every now again, even on the older machines we have running 98.

But it is not consistant correct. You can logon sometimes right. I have noticed that here. On the Win98 machines from time to time I get that same message. After trying again users can logon. As of yet I am unsure why. I think the authentication server is either getting a garbled login or the 98 machine from time to time sends a blank login.
