Hi,

When I went to bed thursday night my PC was working perfectly. When I awoke friday morning my PC failed to start and had no power. I had noticed a light smell of electrical over heating for a couple days but thought it was my Air Conditioner. I replaced the power supply and now I can get the standby led to light on the motherboard and the fans on the CPU and Case start, but the one on the Power Supply does not. There is no monitor activity and after about 15 seconds I get beep codes. One long higher pitched beep followed by a slightly lower pitched long beep. They keep cycling back and forth until the switch on the Power Supply is turned off, the power switch on the case only will turn the system on it will not respond to turn the syetem off.

Asus K7V Mother Board
192 meg 133memory
Athlon 700 CPU
3dfx Video Card
Sound Blaster Live XGamer
System board, memory and Power Supply 1 1/2 months old.

The second Power Supply is not new and may be bad as well, but do the beep codes indicate a further problem?

Thanks
Dennis

hi Dennis,

that beep code means the mobo is not finding any memory, but knowing it is installed, you have a problem.

first thing i would do is unload the power supply as much as possible, i would try a generic VGA card, one stick of RAM, and try to see if it boots. it doesnt sound good tho - sorry

K7 boards demand ALOT of power and a top name supply is really required for reliability. ( PC Power and cooling comes to mind)

you may have under voltaged the board, resulting in excessive current and possible toasting something on the board.

fans on the cpu and case only may just mean a bad power supply fan ( fix ), but i really think you have bigger problems.

Your systems looks like the one I'am now typing on.
Worst case: your Athlon died!
