We have a Windows 2000 server with a 9.0 GB Hard disk 2 Partition approx 4.0 GB each. Priviously this was a Microsoft SBS 4.5 server we installed a Windows 2000 server in a dual boot situation. Now I tried to clone the Hard disk with Ghost 2002 when I try to boot with the cloned partition it comes up with an error saying " Directory service could not start because of the following error. The System cannot find the file specified error status 0x000000f.Please click o.k to shut down the system & reboot into directory service restore mode. Check the event log for more detail information". I tried to reboot in a directory service restore mode it ask me for a password which I tried to input the Administrator password but it did not accept so gave it up and then tried to mirror the hard disk. When I tried to boot through the mirrored disk
it could not find the boot sector to boot from and the cursor blinks at a blank screen.I have tried to simulates a very similar situation except the dual boot with SBS 4.5 server and the cloning process and the mirror works perfectly fine.

Could some one guide me where I am going wrong.

Is one OS on the 1st partition and the other on the 2nd? Are you cloning the whole disk? That should work - but just copying one partition wont work.

It has 2 OS both on c:\ drive Windows 2000 server and windows Nt 4.5 SBS server.

I don't think Ghost 2002 support W2K server. It can't copy Directory Services objects.

Did you run Sysprep before Ghosting? You have to run Sysprep before you can use GHost so it will delete all SIDs form your Original HDrive with W2k Server. A+, MCP, CCNA

But as I said that I tried to simulate a very similar situation and Ghost worked fine with Windows 2000 server. But with that particular Hard disk it is not working.

run sysprep and then ghost after that without using the hardrive after sysprep, for any other thing but for GHost. A+, MCP, CCNA

But how to run the Sysprep tool.

just find it in the CD of windows 2000 if you dont have it in your Hard Drive Already....just make sure that everything is working , and run it. At the end it will ask you to shut down.
After that shut down, you can make the GHost. Dont turn on the hard drive again before after the sysprep unless you will do the cloning, otherwise you will have to run sysprep again.
IN case you dont find it

I have found that some of the disk cloning tools will actually toggle the "Active Drive" setting on a HD. We've cured this by using a compatible FDISK type utility to reset the "Active Drive" parameter. There must be some type of conflict with 2 drives being shown as an "Active Drive", so it shuts theparameter down on one, making it unbootable there after.

Hope it helps
