I'm relatively new to XP and I'd like to know how I might go about deleting my name in the computer or re-naming it? I got a new laptop, powered it on and gave it a name, and now I've decided to sell it... so I'd like to remove my personal information.

Sounds dumb, but I'd appreciate any help you guys can offer.

I think working over the registry is all it needs since I only had the thing powered on for a few minutes and for kicks entered my name and address. I haven't created any data files, saved anything to the HDD or whatever, nor have I used any applications or even registered the XP for the first time around with MS. I'll leave all that up to the guy who buys it. Will try the registry route in the morning.

linney...

I got the user name off the start-up by going into the registry, that seemed to work out OK. But the "user" when it boots now is "Administrator". So I'm wondering if there's a (not too difficult) way to get it back to "0"?

IOW, is there a way to recreate the initial startup sequence so that the person buying the notebook will be prompted to enter his/her own information when they first boot it up?

So far I've maybe had this machine running about 10 minutes at most, and I don't care if there's a date stamp of May 20, 2004 as the first power-up... I just want the transition to be as smooth as possible for the buyer. I haven't added or touched any programs that were pre-installed by HP.

Thanks again for all the help.

My advise is to leave things as they are and let any new owner set things up as he wants.
