Hi Gang,
I'd like to create a share on my SUN U10 running Solaris 9 so that I can move files from my linux system to the solaris system. I've seen alot of references to the command share_nfs
My sun system has a ufs file system as listed using the mount command.

Can someone walk me through the share process when using a ufs ?

The reason just fyi, is I need to install samba on the SUN System so that a few of our windows clients can begin using the sun system as a file server. The sun systems internet browser has issues displaying the Samba website correctly and coincidently I can not Download the samba software.
I was thinking I would download the samba software for solaris onto my linux workstation and then "mv" the file from linux to the SUN nfs share if possible.
I'm still kind of new to this Unix/Linux OS but I catch on very quickly.

To share a file system on the Solaris box, go to /etc/dfs. Edit the dfstab file as shown in the example. Remember to run "/etc/init.d/nfs.server start" after you are done. You can verify your file system is shared by running command "share".

Thats true.

I would either recommend suns packaged samba (On the solaris extras disk) or from as opposed to compiling your own.

NFS is the standard Unix Network filesystem mechanism and it works well.

UFS is the hard disk filesystem.

I have the DVD and bonus CDs for Solaris 9,
where would I find the samba software if I have the correct CD? I've read the outside of the disks and no where does it come out and say "samba version xx.xx"
Thanks in advance.

It may well be installed already:

SUNWsmbac
samba - A Windows SMB/CIFS fileserver for UNIX (client)

SUNWsmbar
samba - A Windows SMB/CIFS fileserver for UNIX (Root)

SUNWsmbau
samba - A Windows SMB/CIFS fileserver for UNIX (Usr)

Check for /etc/init.d/samba
man pkginfo as well.

docs.sun.com is your friend.
