I have two issues, all on Windows XP. Someone please help me.

1. Anytime I try to remove Nero, it goes through the uninstall process, then right at the end, gives an error message:

Error 1316.A A network error occured while attempting to read from the file c:\windows\installer\Nero-Burning Rom.msi

After this error message, it retraces its steps and repairs Nero back to how it was before it began uninstalling.

2. Secondly, for some reason, my "Network Connections" service refuses to start. Anytime I open Services and try to start the "Network Connections" service, it gives the error message 127: The Specified Procedure could not be found.

I used my ethernet card all throughout the summer and it never gave me any issues. For some reason, it wouldn't work now that I am at school. Don't think I banged the system around during transportation so I don't know what to do. I can't even see my Network Connections, although my network card is installed fine.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Try setting up a logfile to see what is going on with your installs.

For troubleshooting, enable the MsiInstaller verbose log file using the instructions from KB article Q223300.

Make sure you are an Administrator and that the Windows Installer service is not disabled in Services.

For both problems check the Event Viewer.

Look in the System or Application folder. You can get to the Event Viewer via right click My Computer icon and select Manage.

Any errors logged in the Event Viewer can be expanded by double clicking on the error line.

Take any event error I.D. number and search for it on these sites.

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Explorer.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?).

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.
