Two Questions - TDM-Based Sets 2

Hello all,

Happy Memorial Day Long Weekend!

It's been some time since I've sold or installed an IP Office. It still remains on of my favourites (I go back to the first release and it was barely brand new). I just had two quick questions. I did look at Avaya.com, but I didn't see anything there specifically to what I'm wondering.

1) Does Avaya still produce/manufacture any TDM-based phones? I'm thinking the 1400-series was Avaya's final series of TDM-based phones...???

2) I believe the most current version of IP Office maybe 12.1?? At around version 8 or 9 (I think 9?), Avaya made the statement in their guides and manuals that they were no longer "supporting" the 6400-series of phones (which before IP Office were Definity-based phones - another great PBX). I put the word "support' in quotes because Avaya still allowed you to use them and program them if you wanted to, but they wouldn't support them (so don't call for help) and new new fixes/patches would be offered for the 6400-series. With that said, you could still add them to your system and when you saved the configuration you got a warning that there are unsupported sets within the configuration. But that's as far as it went. Is there anything in 10.x or 11.x or 12.1 that would indicate they have completely removed them from support to the point you can't even program them any more on a digital port (on the main chassis or the station expansion modules)???

Thanks so much everyone!

We have digital cards and 30 port expansion modules on IP Office v11.1 we use 9508's so they work but also think they may be end of support. We tend to only use 1400 series on Aura.

9508s are still available. We stopped using 5400s some time ago so i cant speak to them on 12.1 but on 11.1 the 5410s were fine the 5402s would lock up and need rebooting. The 1400s are still supported and there are so many on the second-hand market we use those when we want a really cheap solution.

1) I can only see the new IP phones on their website but 1400 series still seem to be on the market. Somewhere there should be a list of end of sale and end of support products.

2) According to their matrix support for 6400 series phones ended with version 6.1 so that is going back years. I think support can be checked by looking for the relevant bin files in the Office Manager program file folder. I don't have any 6400 phones but you may be able to see the bin file in the settings.

Avaya's website is crap, seems they only advertise the IP solutions for everything even though they still produce and sell the digital sets and hardware to run it.
They think that they make more money on IP sets and licenses than on digital solutions and show that on their website.
That is the reason that we sell our other products if the customer wants IP solutions but offer it to the customer showing the differences and the price is usually what makes the difference.
I have 6408 phones on my 11.1 system at home and they work without a problem, also a few 5410 connected to the same system and other than the time issue they work like a charm. I have no 1400 set on my system because I don't like their looks :)

I can confirm the 6400 series sets work mostly fine on 12.1 as well.

About the only weirdness I've seen is when you press # it comes up as a £ symbol. I use the UK English locale so wonder if it's some form of find and replace for the regional settings.
