Two NIC's for one Storage Server

I have a new Windows 2003 Storage Server with 2 build in NIC's, my old file server (that is now offline) only had one. I plan to use IP address of my old file server for the first nic in the new file server. Can I use any other IP address within the reserved scope for the other NIC? Should I think about only using the one NIC? Binding the two NICs together? I'm looking for the easiest solution that won't cause other issues.

The name of this new Windows 2003 Storage Server will be the name of the old file server, so that users don't realize it is a new server.

The easiest solution is to disable the second nic. You can do this if you do not have high bandwidth needs or fault tolerance needs for the server.

However, if you would like to use both nics, you would have to team the NIC together. If this is an HP server, the teaming software comes with the server. (Usually, you would need a teaming driver to do this.)

I would not recommend have one server using two nic cards with two IP addresses. You should probably stick to having one IP address using two NIC (using teaming software).
