I have conflicting information in my references. Some say that there are 1440 twips per inch, whilst others say 1444 twips per inch. Which is correct?

In the Microsoft Visual Basic Developer's Workshop, Fifth Edition:

1440 Twips per inch
567 Twips per centimeter

120 Twips per character in the horizontal direction
240 Twips per character in the vertical direction
