Tutorial on Users and Logins in SQL Server 1

Hi,
Does anyone know of a good tutorial that will teach me the basics of user and logins, and exactly what their relationship is?

Also setting permissions for a user.. what does it all mean?
Database Role Membership?

Also what login should I be using as my connection string? Does using the DBO login for my connection make my application a security risk?

I'm sure this stuff is not rocket science if I could just get an explanation that was in lamens terms with a few practical examples??
