this R7 (yes i know it's a bit old) Definity system recently fell to me to learn all about and figure out as i went along (at least until we get a real telecom employee). having no prior telephony expertise, it's somewhat of a challenge but fortunately i've been able to just look at current settings and duplicate them for new requests and a lot of it is self-evident.
this situation is different for some reason. what's happening is a few users wish to have the ability to forward calls at certain times of the day or days of the week. times and days change, so the users wish to control it themselves by buttons on their phones. one user already has it set up this way. she has two coverage paths set up. one for regular calls coming in and going to system voicemail (octel) and one that corresponds to a remote path for her mobile phone.
she changes coverage paths with two programmed buttons on her phone. one key on her 6408D+ is set to change coverage path to her normal phone/voicemail. the other changes coverage path to her mobile, which then returns to octel for answering voicemail if she fails to answer her mobile.
this is all fine and has been working for her for years before i arrived. the thing is, putting in the same entries as she has for her autodial for keys 4 and 5 (office and mobile, respectively) and just replacing her extension with the person's who's requesting it, fails.
on this system the FAC to change coverage path is 121.
so the autodial on her button 4 (again, office) is set to:
"1218067#18067#1" and on her button 5 (mobile) it is "1218067#18067#2". so to me this reads 121 for change coverage path, the extension in question, #1 for coverage path to change, again the extension, and coverage path to change to. thus button 4 would change coverage path 1 as it's set in the system to what it's desired to be - normal office ringing, then octel vm. button 5 would change coverage path 2 to take the place of coverage path 1.
again this has worked for her for years and continues to work to this day. but putting the same string in my own or another's phone autodial doesn't work. i get wave-off.
keying in the string on a handset shows nothing displayed after the first # sign is entered and regardless of how many or what keys are entered after that #, the instant i hit the second # key in that string i get wave-off. however, if i type the string in manually on her phone, i get a dial tone by the second # key and 3 pauses (i already know from unrelated code-entering that this means success) once i enter the final 1 or 2.
all the details of each station, coverage path, and coverage remote look identical. every phone here that i know of and definitely the ones i'm trying to duplicate this on have identical COR and COS. i don't know but i'm guessing it's an authorization/security issue since i know nothing about that area yet. i appreciate any suggestions and of course answers are even better.
thanks in advance, sorry if i'm overly wordy or if i missed a post on this topic. i have been looking for a while.
