Turn off Touchpad on Compaq 1700 Armada Notebook??

An associate uses one of these and prefers a PS2 mouse. However, he says he often triggers the touchpad with unwelcome consequences.

I know some compaq NB's allow you to disable the touchpad but I can't see how on this 1700 series.

Anyone able to help??
