Hi all

im trying to turn off "simple file sharing" in windows xp home sp2.

in xp pro, the setting is in folder options / view tab / and uncheck simple file sharing.

i believe that in xp home the setting is in the same place but you just have to be in safe mode to access it?

unfortunatley, the setting is not present on the dell laptop im working on.

does anyone know if this setting is present in xp home sp2? and where it is

cheers

Although this does work with regard permissions, its not what im looking for.

The reason i want to turn off simple file sharing is because in tring to use remote assistance with xp home machines on the internet. when i get the request and try to connect to the other computer, i get a permission denied error.

According to microsoft 1 of the reasons for this error is that simple file sharing is enabled and needs turning off. I have done this before in XP home but not on SP2. The setting is missing on the machine im working on.

Sorry for not explaining myself properly in the first place.

Cheers
