Hey all- I did a search on the forum regarding this topic and found some info, but didn't seem to work. I'm basically trying to connect a QSDI tty port to my laptop. So- the tty port is a DB9 and my COM port on laptop is a DB9. I'm looking for the pinout on each end for this config. Can I use a straight through cable with a nul-modem? I've tried that and can't get to work. I've actually tried many pinouts to be honest. I can get to the point where I can send info from PBX to my laptop (via tty X command) but cannot communicate from laptop to PBX. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I've set the dip switches for both DTE & DCE without luck. Thanks- this can't be that hard!

Thank you both for replying. Yes- I do mean the connector on ribbon cabble. So the drawing from ghtrout matches the pinout as shown by bigindian65. Pin 6 is RXD data huh? That's pretty standard.

So just to clarify- can I simply make a cable DB9 to DB9 as indicated by above post and connect between ribbon cable connector and COM port and I should be good. Or do i then have to connect another cable or nul-modem or something between made cable and COM port? I've tried a hundred things and just cant get this bugger to work. maybe I need to INI? Again, thanks very much for the posts and if you can add any further clarification around cable that would be awesome.

Here is my TTY build:
ADAN TTY 5
CTYP QSDI
GRP 0
DNUM 5
DES Moxa3
FLOW NO
USER MTC SCH
XSM NO
TTYLOG 5000
BANR YES

Also, I have the dip switches set for DCE on that tty port. Tried DTE & DCE.

Don't know if it helps but when I was connecting to an old Option 51c we had I would just take the TTY leading to the terminal and use a 25 to 9 converter and then go into my laptop. Haven't had any problems with that method.

I'll tell you what I do... make two standard 9-pin connectors with a few feet of cable, then just splice wires until I get it right. It saves the hassle of re-pinning those dang adapters over and over.
