ok im trying to get a windows 2003 server to share its internet access. i have another pc connected to it using 2 nics. i started it at 12am, and thought it was going to be no problem but now its 4:35am and still dont have it working!! lol

i set up rras as a nat, it installs and configs. at the end it shows the ip range it will asign. however the xp box is not getting an ip address.
"Clients on the local-area network will be assigned IP addresses from the following range:network address:192.168.0.0; network mask 255.255.0.0" doesnt this mean that the xp box should get an ip?

i set up dchp manually. after this the xp box gets an ip address from the pool i set manually using the dchp service.

at either stage, i can browse the server's files from the xp box. its pingable too.

ive been playing with settings all night, i still cant get it to work. when the xp box has an ip, and i try to use the web on it, i think it is using my internal dnsing. so i tried to manually mess with the xp's box tci/ip settings, thinking if i used the servers ip as the gateway, etc.

someone, please help me! i also tried sharing the connection using "share this connection". the xp box wouldnt grab an ip address though(but it would update the second nic to 192.168.0.1). i dont think i can use this even if it did work, i plan on hosting a website with dns and if im currect you cant using sharing and have dns running.

the server has 2 nics, one connected to the internet and connected to the xp box

Witch box has 2 nics? Do you have a router or network switch setp also? If the server has the 2 nics and the internet is going into one and the other to the XP box, then highlight both nics right click and select bridge.

Normal config is something like:

Win2k3 Box
|_NIC 1 goes to router/modem/WAN etc.
|_NIC 2 goes to LAN switch

Have RRAS setup as NAT

Use as default gateway on clients for external web access. (make sure DNS is setup correctly though)

ya the server has 2 nics. this is as big as the network is goint to get so id rather not buy a router/switch.

what kind of dns zone would i set up, and what do i use as a gateway?

i got it to work, i put my isps dns server into the dns box of the xp system and i have net access now.

somebody give me a beer.
