Hi all,

I recently acquired a couple of DG Numaliine boxes (AV20000) and a Clariion disk array. I'm trying to get these things to work. I'd like to load linux on the DG machines if possible, and find out how to manage the Clariion. I'm not sure of the model of the disk array, but the controllers and disk trays are fibre channel and the controller has two serial ports on it.

I find the servers don't like any keyboards I plug into them- they just sit there beeping. There's a serial console on a card on the back of the box, which spits out POST data and then asks if I'm a field engineer and wants a password.

If anyone can point me in the right direction about getting this stuff running, it would be most appreciated. Otherwise this stuff may end up in the dumpster.

Thanks

-Mike

The AV20 is managed via a software program loaded on a standalone pc called M3W. Your first step is to get that loaded up and hooked to the AV20 private lan.

Thanks for the information, at least I know what needs to happen. I'm just wondering now if anyone out there knows where I can find M3W.

I know that GE Retail used AV20's. They were mostly furniture stores. They ran DG Unix so, I'm pretty sure they'd run Linux ok.

EMC owns the rights to the s/w now. emc.com would be a good starting point. BL Associates sold systems to GE Retail. They may be of some help. Park Place International is another outfit that maintains those machines.

You'll also need Navisphere to manage the Clariions. ( It can run on the same pc you have M3W loaded on). The serial port is not useful unless you want to get into using the cli commands and such to get it set up. There's an article in EMC: Disk and Raid solutions forum for the FC5500. Just click on the lightbulb in that forum to see the list of articles.

Good luck!
