I am running 2000 server on my main pc with a cable modem to the internet. On my second computer, I am running 98se. I have one NIC dedicated to the cable modem, and a second dedicated to the LAN. When I install NAT and follow the recommended install, I lose internet connection on the 2000 server machine. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Do you have an interface set up under NAT?
If so right-click on the interface for the internet.
Select Properties.
Make sure "Public Interface connected to the internet" is selected and "Translate TCP/UDP" is checked.

If you don't have any interface's set up add your "Internal" and "Internet" interfaces by right-clicking NAT and selecting "New Interface..."

In the above "Internal" refers to the NIC connected to your home network and Internet refers to the NIC connected to your cable modem.

Also do you have a static IP for your cable modem? If not make sure your "Internet" NIC is set for DHCP.

Can you ping to the internet like
If you need anymore help just holler!

I have both interfaces set up under NAT. Both are configured the way you stated above. As soon as I install NAT I lose connection to the internet, after its taken out I can connect again. Also, I do have a static IP address for the cable modem. I cannot even ping my cable modem once NAT is installed. I can still ping the 98se machine on my LAN and get a ping on the loopback 127.0.0.1 on the Internet NIC.

Thanks

Ryan

What is the IP Address of your Internet NIC when NAT is uninstalled? Leave the las 2 octets blank when you post like 10.1.x.x

What IP scheme are you using internally? NAT automatically sets up with the 192.168.x.x and you have to change it after the install.
