I 'm having a problem trying to add a BDC to my domain. When I try to setup AD on the BDC to add to the domain as BDC, it asks for the username that has the rights to add it as a BDC to the domain. I go to put in the Admin username and password, then it comes up with not having the proper rights. The admin account has schema, domain, enterprise admin rights on the account. What could I be missing? I thought that the Admin account has the proper rights. Please help

Are you running DCPromo? Is the server a Member server now?

Until I added the server into the network, i only had the one PDC. It is in mixed mode at the moment and it is running my dhcp, ad, dns etc. Now im just trying to setup the bdc which hasnt been configured yet other then being joined to my domain.

in the username, did you type username or domain\username?

I tried it with the username and then with domain\username and it comes up with insufficient rights while trying to add computername$ as a domain controller.

Are you sure that the account is a Domain Admin Account?

Has to be a DOMAIN administrator account-- not just the administrator.

Couple of pointless things:

BDC doesnt technically exist anymore with win2k
make sure its the domain administrator account of the other server
make sure its the actualy administrator account and not a pseudo account named admin thats got "admin" rights

If still having issues -ensure:

Can you add it as a member server? if yes - its a pure permission issue
if no: check youve got your DNS settings set to the primary servers ip address

another silly thnig-that people do somtimes-- when adding another server to a domain - make sure your typing the domain anme in and not the server name your trying to connect it to.
sorry about the lame posts-but you have to cover your bases

MCSE NT&2K,CCNA/CCDA,CNA,ASE,NSP

If your going to post-- say somthing instead of Googling a URL link

It is definitly the Administrator account. I renamed it due to security issues way back, it is definitly a member of the Domain Admin group. My DNS settings are correct. Im just not sure why the permissions are sufficient enough.
