Hi Guys & Gals,

I'm running WindowsXP on my PC, and have IE6 and Outlook Express - Version 6.00.2800.1123, updated with xpsp1.

Recently I find that I can't send e-mails from my Outlook Express account. It receives New Mail OK, but when I try to 'Send' a New Message I get the following Error Message:-

"The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.freeserve.net', Server: 'smtp.freeserve.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E"

I can also log into my 'ISP' OK , receive, and also send e-mails OK from my e-mail account there without any problems. This is the same account name that I use in Outlook Express but can't send New Message from!

I've tried reinstalling IE6 - from MS downloads - but, because I'm running a version which is a later one (updated with xpsp1) it will not install.

Has anyone any ideas please, thanks

Have a a look at IEfix.

Internet Explorer Fix

Make sure your Outlook Express settings are correct for the ISP and Ports used.

Outlook Express/ Tools/ Accounts/ Mail/ Properties

You should see something like mail.freeserve.net and ports 25 and 110 mentioned in the various Property pages. Your ISP will help you more with the settings.

Mel66,

Posts make several excellent points that you should insure are correct.

You did not state, at least clearly, if this was working in OE and quit or that you have never been able to send from OE through this POP account. This Information would be helpful in determining what a cause might be.
