Trouble understanding Forms

Got through realationships, got my tables normalized, thought forms would be a snap. Wrong!! I am probably missing something, but as I see it, I can only have one table on a form. I can have sub-forms, but they can only be viewed. I tried a query, but when I made a form of it I ended up with a sub form again. I want to make a form from several tables and then pick and change at will of combo boxes and text boxes and such, then this can be printed on a report. I have seen in the forum about code that will make the sub-forms fillable as you tab through. Is this the way, or am I missing something simpler here. Any insight would be appreciated.

You are on the right path.

First, create a query from the tables which have the fields you want on your form. As long as the query will run and return records it will work in a single form.

Next, I suggest that you use the form wizard to create your form. Then you can see how the form design looks for differnt things.

I always use the form wizard and report as my starting point and then modify the design to exactly what I want.

Go to forms, new and select form wizard. On that same screen you can select the table or query you want your form to be based on. Then follow the wizard.

The nice thing is that you may be able to use the same query to create the report also. Or you may need a different query to limit the data in some way. But no matter, use the Report wizard in the same manner and choose the query to be asociated with the report.

That is basically all there is to it.

Fill in the linked child / master fields of the subform representation in the main form. Press the '...' button next to one of those properties to see what is expected. Usually, Access comes up with the right link straight away.
