I'm running 2003 Server, Exchange 2003, .....everything 2003. Haven't had many problems except except slowness cause it's all running on an old desktop workstation. Anyway, it was storming the other day and the power went out, the server rebooted like it normally does except this time the Exchange services didn't start.

I tried shutting down and restarting again, but it won't shutdown, it just sits at the Logging Off screen. I eventually have to power off/on, relogin, but the services won't start. I can't even start them manually, they just error out. I don't have any details on the errors right now as I am at work, but I just wanted to see if anyone had ran into this before or had any suggestions.

I've tried restarting several times, but each time I have to power it off and then it takes a VERY long time to log back in. BTW, all the other services are working just fime (TS, IIS, etc...)

TIA,
Michael

It sounds like during the power outage may have affected a database. It maybe trying to do a repair on the database. All other applications on this server are ok, ie OWA login.

One more idea is when you login check the task manager, to see what is trying to startup.

For the old desktop workstation, are you running netbios for them to connect to the exchange.

I'll check on the DNS one, I just noticed that I can't get to the server from a workstation, ie. the home/shared drive which is located on the server, can't get to it.

I can't manually stop any of the exchange services, they all time out. Kinda strange.

No, OWA doesn't work either and I'm not running netbios...or shouldn't be, I'll double check that.

FYI, I ended up rerunning DomainPrep and that fixed the problem. Apparently something happening with the accounts/rights for the Exchange Server groups when the power outage happened. Anywho, it's working just fine now. Thanks for the help.
