trouble removing domain

I've got a domain (b.z) that was created as a new tree in an existing forest. The DC for the new domain was removed improperly w/o using dcpromo. Now, if I try to create this domain I get an error stating that the domain already exists. I can't add the new DC to the domain because it can't find a DC for the domain. I've deleted all references to it in DNS on the DC for domain a.z, but the domain b.z still shows up under "domains and trusts". Is there something else I need to do to delete the domain b.z? Your going to have to remove the orphaned domain. Here's an article on doing that:

Also you will need to delete the orphaned DC which wasn't demoted properly. Here's an article on that:
