Hello. I have a a Intel Pentium 3 computer. The other day it crashed due to viruses and pop up ads taking over it. I ran various spyware and adware programs nothing worked. I tried going into safe mode to see if i can fix from there but can't because the computer shuts down and reboots in the middle of me tryingto get ito that mode. So i decided to start from scratch and reinstall windows 2000, the problem is that it does'nt load all the way, only half way then the computer shut down, and rebooted. So i tred again and the same thing happens . It gets to a certain point in the loading process then shuts down again. Sometimes i'll get a message saying there was a hardware confuguration problem, other times it will just shut down ad reboot. Do i need to erase all on the hardrive first ? if so how ? or what might the problem and solution be to get windows installed? Thanks for your help!!

Delete the partition during W2K setup and the reformat it then install.

I'm Certifiable, not certified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

Thats the problem it wont let me get that far to partition a drive. At the beggining, windows loads and ask what version of it to instal i choose windows 2000 and then it attempts to load then fails, boots me off then loads back up and does this all over again.

Are you booting from the 2k install CD? If not, you should be. If you are and the install is failing, then you have got a hardware problem (rather than effects of spyware etc) - and you'll need to go thhrough process of elimination to find what's causing the problem. If this is the case - some history would be helpful - eg, what you thought was virus/spyware problems may have also been bad hardware. So, is there a history of problems with this machine?

But its not clear if you're starting the install from within the current damaged windows or not.
